Child Parent Relationship Therapy (CPRT)
CPRT is Child-Parent Relationship Training (CPRT) is a 10-week, evidence-based programme for parents and carers of children aged 2–11years. It encourages parents to undertake guided and structured, play-based sessions at home to strengthen the parent-child relationship, support emotional regulation, communication, and connection. Parents learn practical skills they apply both in sessions and at home, helping rebuild or deepen emotional bonds in a consistent and supportive way.
Children benefit from feeling more secure, understood, and able to express their emotions at home, which often reduces behavioural difficulties and supports emotional regulation, resilience, and social development. Parents benefit from increased confidence, reduced stress, and improved communication with their child, alongside more effective ways of responding to challenging behaviour. The group setting also offers shared learning and peer support, helping families feel less alone and more equipped.
About Child-Parent Relationship Training (CPRT)
Child-Parent Relationship Training (CPRT) is a 10-week structured programme designed to support parents and carers in strengthening their relationship with their child through play-based connection, emotional attunement, and responsive interaction. It focuses on building confidence, deepening attachment, and developing practical skills that help parents better understand and respond to their child’s emotional world.
The programme begins with an initial assessment and introduction session, where we explore current concerns, family dynamics, and goals for the work. This also provides space to understand the child’s needs and the parent or carer’s hopes for change, and to introduce the core principles of the approach.
Each of the 10 weekly sessions then focuses on a specific theme, combining reflection, guidance, and practical skills. Parents are supported to apply these ideas at home between sessions, using structured play interactions to strengthen connection, improve communication, and support emotional regulation.
Throughout the programme, there is space to review progress, reflect on challenges, and adapt strategies to meet the needs of both the parent and child. The emphasis is on building a more secure, attuned, and emotionally responsive relationship over time.
At the end of the 10-week programme, a summary review is provided, outlining progress, key developments, and recommendations for ongoing support if needed.
